One Year Later....

The road home was a sweet ride. We arrived home to a wonderful welcome from Emily, compete with homemade lemon squares with home grown raspberries and a banner hung in front of the garage.
This was the first time that I had travelled so far from home and for such a long period of time without our children. In the past it was our children leaving the nest for various reasons and activities. This time, it was the mother hen and the rooster that flew the coop.
Ed and I were once again those two 19 year olds that met at the Fraser Arms, young and newly in love. When we planned the odyssey to celebrate our 30 years of marriage we thought that we were just planning a road trip across the country visiting friends and family along the way. We not only had a trip across Canada. We had a trip across the years - not only seeing friends and family along the way, but as we drove along, we would talk and reminise about the people that had been a part of our lives over the last 37 years.
Ed arrived to pick me up for our first date in his green Toyota on May 26, 1973.
We have been travelling since then side by side, the perfect team.

I will complete this blog with the lyrics from the Beatles' song, There Are Places

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I remember I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I’ll love you more

In my life I’ll love you more
